What is the fundamental difference between PMS and Mutual Funds?
In Mutual Funds, you hold units — stocks are not directly in your name. In PMS, securities are held directly in your demat account. PMS is highly customized and personalized — a minimum of ₹50 Lakh is required whereas AIF requires you to invest minimum of 1Cr investments. Taxation is also different in case of PMS and AIF’s.
What is the minimum investment for PMS and AIF?
As per SEBI regulations, PMS requires a minimum investment of ₹50 Lakh. AIF requires a minimum of ₹1 Crore.
What asset classes are available under AIF?
AIF gives access to Private Equity, Venture Capital, Real Estate, Hedge Strategies, Pre-IPO Opportunities, Structured Credit, and Special Situation Funds — asset classes not available to regular retail investors.
Are PMS returns guaranteed?
No. PMS is equity-market-linked, so returns vary. However, over the long term, skilled PMS managers have consistently outperformed mutual funds on a risk-adjusted basis.
Will I get transparency in PMS?
Absolutely. In PMS, you have real-time access to your demat statement. You can view every stock, transaction, and portfolio valuation directly. Complete transparency at all times.
What is the lock-in period for AIF?
Different products can be open ended or closed ended. Open ended AIF’s generally do not have lock-ins but they have an exit load for the first 1-2 years. Closed ended AIF’s have lock-ins of 5-7 years.
